Do you remember the first time you saw me?
I don’t remember the very first time I actually saw you but I remember the first moment I felt an attraction to you. You were conducting a sub-meeting and interjecting your enthusiasm to inspire the group. My first thought was “what an absolute goof”! But there was something sweet and whimsical about your approach. I thought….I wondered… were you untethered? Your blond locks, the way your eyes squint and your lips curl when you smile. The slight imperfection of your teeth and the softness of your hazel eyes. I felt a tingle.
The human “intersection” is an emotional flicker of flint sparking the flame which marries fire to wax…illuminating space. Does it shed a glowing, mystical light on the pulse of desire or a flashlight focusing on what is to come? Why does it take years to know?
What draws two people together? Is the attraction only on a physical level or something more? Whatever the roadways are that merge two soul together driving them to intersect, we cannot resist. If only the directional signs along the way would truly tell what the coming miles will bring. Does this highway sound familiar to you?

There are days when a simple glass of wine will not do! The come infrequently and can be
influenced by a swollen moon, the vocal scratching of certain individuals or when my heart weighs heavy. Whatever the reason their seems to be one savory elixir that eases the synaps within my brain. A Martini!
I don’t mind a well balanced Cosmopolitan….when it’s on the sour side. There are martini’s that resemble bacon, grilled cheese and cheesecake! I am just not one of those woman who appreciates an Apple-tini or urnes for a hydros “tini” with any kind of fruit juice in the mix. My elected drink to be served in a martini glass is one that is dirty.
I am NOT a gin drinker (I prefer my pine in an air freshener or a Christmas tree) so my martini is made of Vodka. Yes, I realize a “true” martini is made with gin. Can’t do it! Here’s my recipe:
Chill martini glass (ice cubes in the bowl of the glass and fill with water) for 15 minutes
Add 2 inches of crushed ice to shaker (not crushed to resemble snow, it waters down the drink!)
3 jiggers of Citrus Vodka
1/2 jigger of Olive Juice
(optional) splash of vermouth
Empty water from martini glass,
2 Feta stuffed Olives (or maybe blue cheese stuffed) on a olive pick, decorate interior of martini glass
Shake vigorously then pour into glass.
I prefer to pour about half the mix and store the remaining half in the freezer. I nibble on one olive with the first glass, refill then finish the 2nd olive with the second glass full. It is satisfying….savory…..salty…. and soothing! Yes, when someone says “martini?” I say, make it dirty! What’s your favorite Martini? Leave the recipe for all who seek the perfect self medication to sweep away the day.

Today is my day! (Well, mine and my nephew Parker Cook’s that is. Happy Birthday lil Angel!) As the years go by this 24 hour period seems less unique. Maybe it’s because I don’t reside near my family (who finds every reason to party!), maybe it’s because I have no significant other currently or maybe it’s due to the focus being on what was instead of what will be. Whatever the case may be, birthdays are a call for reflection.
This year I’ve decided to start a list of things I desire to do in my life. Big and small…a “bucket list” of sorts. As the days pass I will add to this list and hopefully, mark some completed!
-European Trip with my girls
-Take my girls to a tropical beach and sit our asses in the sand doing NOTHING!
-Order and enjoy a bottle of Dom Perignon!
-Visit Times Square
-Wine trip to Napa Valley
-Finish my book
-Fulfill my daughters higher learning financial responsibilities
-Be in love, feel safe and get married (if fate permits…)
-Own another Great Pyrenees
-Go on another sister exclusive vacation
-Finish reading two more books in the category of “classics” (Maybe Wuthering Heights and Taming of the Shrew!)
-Visit the Greek Isles
-Spend 10 days in Germany with our relatives
-Learn to speak Italian (Ciao!)
-Meet Neil Schon and Steve Perry
…more to come. (maybe after some Champagne….)
